Even stick figures express the soul!
Art making: Expresses what we cannot write or verbalize Creates something that helps individuals in the present Creates a tangible document that can illuminate new       things in the future. Helps individuals witness their own stories Externalizes what’s been kept inside Helps relieve stress
Art therapists help individuals: Reclaim their right to make marks and create form Express ideas and feelings in a visual way Use line, shape and color as tools for expression       (even stick figures have stories to tell) Find a safe place for exploration
“But I’m not an artist…” Children are naturally creative, but some of us abandoned “making stuff” when we came to believe that what we made had to be “good” by someone else’s standards. We may have put it aside when it ceased to be fun because we thought we had to do well and achieve, or that we could not make an image that looked as good as our peers. Art therapists can help individuals reclaim their right to make marks and create form. There are many ways to express ideas and feelings in a visual way using line, shape, and color.
